Another year, another amazing run of great press for Domaine de Bila Haut!
You’ve heard us hail the wines of Southern France’s Roussillon as a “final frontier” for Old World values – they are making some of the very best wines for the price in the world, and they show no signs of slowing down whatsoever.
2012 was a fantastic year for all of Southern France (Rhone Valley, Languedoc, Roussillon, and Provence included), and it should come as no surprise that the wines of Michel Chapoutier have dominated the competition yet again. And at just $12.99, this one is an absolute, no-doubt-about-it value favorite of ours that we’re PUMPED to be getting back in stock for this vintage:
"The 2012 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Les Vignes de Bila Haut is another smoking effort that will top anyone’s value list. A tank-aged blend of Syrah, Grenache and Carignan, it is medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated and balanced, with impressive amounts of blackberry and currant-styled fruit, herbs, pepper and smoked earth aromas and flavors. Showing more minerality with air, it’s a no-brainer purchase and will drink nicely for 5-6 years or more...91" Wine Advocate 4/14
If that’s not enough, we also threw in the wine’s “big brother” at $27.99, and at a quality that can only be considered flat-out AWESOME:
"The 2012 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Latour de France Occultum Lapidem offers dark, mineral-laced aromas and flavors of smoked earth, licorice, wild herbs and blackcurrants to go with a firm, structured and age-worthy profile on the palate. Comprised of mostly Syrah, from schist and gneiss soils, and aged in tank and demi-muid, this superb 2012 has solid mid-palate depth, ample tannin and a beautifully focused finish. It’s a superb value that will be even better in another year or so, and have 12-15 years of ultimate longevity...94 points" Wine Advocate 4/14
Arriving to us next week, we are taking orders right now for these two incredible values. We’ve squeezed what little there was out of our distributor, so be sure to act fast!
All My Best,
