“Many Bordeaux winemakers proved they could make very good to outstanding wines in a very difficult year. It was also a reminder that Bordeaux still makes refined and delicate reds that the British so fondly call "claret." I am happy I tasted 2013, and I look forward to drinking some (reds) from bottle in the future…The highlight of my latest tasting was Sauternes…They might be close to the legendary 2001 vintage in quality and style. The 2013 vintage is an across-the-board success for white.” James Suckling
At Zachys we see the 2013 Bordeaux wine glass as half full! The launch of the En Primeur has begun and despite some of the vintage challenges, there is plenty to get excited about here, especially with some new found praise from Decanter, James Suckling, and Antonio Galloni.
En Primeur 2013 is not for everyone, but for those that are interested, Zachys maintains its historic commitment in ensuring the very best that the vintage has to offer. Just as we were selective with Italy from the 2002 vintage, we are going through and finding wines that make the most sense on the palate and in regards to their pricing. And like the wines from Case Basse di Soldera and Giacomo Conterno who defied the odds with their standout 2002 Brunello and Barolo, respectively, there will be some shining examples from Bordeaux 2013 as good producers do great things in difficult vintages!
Please note, this is an En Primeur offering of 2013 Bordeaux, the wines are due to arrive by late 2016 and will remain in France in proper storage up through that time of official release.
