Historic Montalcino Patriarch Delivers The Region’s “Single Greatest, Cellar Worthy, Old World Red” and “One of the Year's Best Brunellos!” Plus a Baby Brunello in the Making Starting Under $25!

“ll Poggione's straight Brunello di Montalcino is the single greatest, cellar worthy, Old World red for the money.” – Antonio Galloni

Antonio Galloni’s strong statement above could not have better described the historic Montalcino estate, Il Poggione. Decades ago, the pioneering Italian wine critic Burton Anderson stated it best when he said, “The most legendary Brunello is produced by Biondi-Santi, Fattoria dei Barbi, and Costanti.” We would go one further, and add Il Poggione to this illustrious group of benchmark estates. Yesterday, we had the opportunity to taste a selection of the estate’s greatest vintages, including the 1985, 1997, 2004 and the recent release 2012. The 2012 Il Poggione Brunello normale received 95+ Points from Monica Larner of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, calling it “one of the year's best Brunellos.” And after our tasting yesterday, we could not agree more. The 2012 is flat out stunning. In speaking with Alessandro Bindocci, 4th generation winemaker at the estate, we asked what recent vintages would he compare the 2012 Il Poggione; he noted the legendary 1997 for its richness and 2010 for its elegance.

Special pricing is valid through May 31st or while supplies remain available.
