“2014 is a Bordeaux vintage with plenty of attractive wines. Their freshness and vitality is a joy to behold. Saint Estèphe deserves special mention for producing a clutch of superb 2014s and it is probably here that I would be buying alongside the ever-reliable wines from Saint Julien. I doubt that the wines will shut down and so it would not surprise me if they just continue to drink well for 15 to 20 years, longer for the very best. They may well be seen in the same light as the 1988 Bordeaux that presaged the 1989 and 1990, though winemaking has changed so much since then that the 2014s are far superior.” – Neal Martin, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The excitement around Bordeaux continues, and it is not 2015 or the upcoming 2016 en primeur. It is the arrival of the 2014s in bottle and Neal Martin of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate now joins James Suckling and Antonio Galloni in releasing their updated reports. You’ve already heard from Antonio Galloni who struck first stating "Simply put, the finest 2014s are utterly magnificent and well worth seeking out," and then James Suckling followed up noting “Bordeaux’s 2014 vintage is one of the biggest surprises of my 34-year career...The days of over-extracted and over-wooded wines seem over...What makes the 2014s even more appealing is their prices. This may be the best value in Bordeaux since the 2008 vintage.” We could not agree more, we personally recently re-tasted more than 100 stunning selections from the classic 2014 vintage for what are some of the greatest values ever presented from the epicenter of wine. This week it is Neal Martin who has chimed in stating “2014 is a vintage to start eyeing up now, because savvy buyers will find plenty of good quality wines that will begin to increase in value.”
